Alas, the long awaited 5th edition of the important reference Price Guide and Bibliographic Check List for Childrens & Illustrates Books 1880 - 1970 is here. It's been 8 years since the last edition, so this is a very welcome update. For those not familiar with Lee Baumgartens Price Guide and Bibliographic Check List for Childrens & Illustrates Books, many collectors consider this to be their bible. The first edition was published in 1989, and each edition has expanded considerably. It now includes 18,142 titles with points of issue on 565 pages. No pictures or illustrations - just densely packed text with tons of information. Titles are listed under both the author and the illustrator. There is also a helpful title cross-reference for identifying the authors and illustrators of specific titles. For those that are familiar with the earlier editions, in addition to updated prices and large increase in the number of titles covered, the new 5th edition includes the original dust jacket price of most American-made books published as early as 1934, expanded coverage that includes the 1970s, and four new book award designation.
