The Tarim Basin covers the southern half of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in China's north-west. It is well-known of its unique carpet tradition. Tarim Basin carpets synthesize influences of Turkish, Persian, Indian, Central Asian and Chinese artistic traditions, but yet, their designs, bold and serene, are unmistakable. This volume presents the latest study of the subject in light of new archaeological finds and recent field trips. It also includes 12 examples of the late 18th to 19th century Tarim Basin carpets from the Peony Collection, catalogued by Angus Forsyth.
