William Samuelius was deemed the "Dean of American Horoloigsts." For years he maintained the "Information Please" column for the American Horologist and Jeweler magazine. This book is a compilation of that column.
The column relied on reader inquiries and as a result has a very practical bent. The breadth of inquiries has resulted in a book that is fairly comprehensive. (It is 408 pages of double column print.) Much of the information won't be found elsewhere. Even for the master craftsman, the little bits of odd information picked up here and there will be of great value.
The book is organized in a useful manner. There is a good index and the chapter structure is straightforward. Some of the chapter titles are Escapements, Hairsprings, Mainsprings, Watch & Chronometer Disassembles & Assembly, Clocks Striking and Chiming, Pendulum, Wheels, and so forth. The text is in Q&A format and illustrations are provided where helpful. Anyone who works on clocks and watches would find this a useful text.
